New Laws July 1, 2022

New laws and regulations regarding taxes and finances came into effect on July 1, 2022. Here are some of them:

  • Until March 2023, employer contributions for young people between 18 and 23 years have been temporarily reduced to 19.73%. For the period June-August 2022, Parliament has decided that employer contributions for this group will be further reduced to 10.21% for salaries up to 25,000 SEK per month.
  • Those who are members of a Swedish unemployment insurance fund and pay the fee can deduct 25% of the paid fee after June 30, 2022.
  • The benefit value for environmentally friendly cars is changing; now a standardized reduction based on the car’s environmental technology will be applied when calculating the benefit value. To calculate the car benefit value, the new car price should be reduced by:
    350,000 SEK for electric cars
    350,000 SEK for hydrogen cars
    140,000 SEK for plug-in hybrids
    100,000 SEK for gas-powered cars

However, no more than 50% of the car’s new price. This applies to cars that become taxable for the first time on July 1, 2022.

  • To encourage the reuse of second-hand products, VAT is reduced from 12% to 6% on repairs of bicycles, shoes, leather goods, clothing, and household linens.
  • Today, to avoid VAT administration on sales, there is a free limit of up to 30,000 SEK per year. This limit is now being raised to 80,000 SEK. This means that companies with a turnover of no more than 80,000 SEK do not need to register for or declare VAT.
